Italyâ??s disposable cup producer switches to cardboard, biopolymersItalian manufacturer Flo (Fontanellato; www.flo.eu), specialised in disposable tableware and coffee capsules, is investing around EUR 2 mn in a new production unit for paper cups. This will replace two older lines for polystyrene cups, the company reports.

With this investment, the manufacturer, part of compatriot Isap Packaging Group (Verona; www.isap-packaging.com), is reacting to the stricter European directives governing disposable items.

In 2019, nearly 80% of the products manufactured by Flo were still based on plastic but this share has fallen to around 50% in the meantime. Alongside cardboard and cellulose, Fontanellato now also processes bioplastics, including Gea brand coffee capsules in PLA.30.03.2023 Plasteurope.com [252491-0]
