Finnish study shows "Bioska" films biodegrade within six monthsOne of Walkiâ??s â??Bioskaâ? products (Photo: Walki)Walki (Espoo / Finland; www.walki.com) a manufacturer of technical laminates and protective packaging materials says a recent study on the decomposition rate of bio-based and biodegradable materials shows its â??Bioskaâ? films to be one of the plastics with faster biodegradability. Its â??Bioska 501â? and â??Bioska+â? transparent packaging films were tested in the study as part of the â??Ubinamâ? project from the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE, Helsinki; www.syke.fi).
The SYKE study looked at how biodegradable and bio-based materials decompose in the Baltic Sea while being immersed in the marine environment for up to one year. Walki notes that the Bioska films decomposed almost completely within six months.
Last year Walki acquired Finnish film and packaging manufacturer Plastiroll (Ylà¶jà¤rvi; www.plastiroll.fi), producer of the Bioska and â??Hauskaâ? line of biodegradable bags, films, sacks and inliners â?? see Plasteurope.com of 28.05.2019.
