Huhtamaki launches compostable Impresso double-walled hot cup

Close survey Food and drink packaging manufacturer Huhtamaki has launched a compostable Bioware Impresso double-walled hot cup.Available in a mixed sleeve of white and green designs, the new cup uses the Impresso bubble emboss, which improves insulation and provides a ‘feel good’ touch for the user.Part of to the company’s Bioware compostable range, the new cup uses sustainable, 100% Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified paperboard and has a plant-based coating on the inside.Similar to the company’s other Impresso double-walled cups, the innovative design of the new cup allows the use of 25% less material than most double and triple-walled cups currently available on the market.
The company claimed that this reduces the weight of the packaging and does not compromise on performance.
Huhtamaki Foodservice UK marketing manager Becci Eplett said: “We are experts in both cup design and manufacture, and our latest innovation, ‘feel good’, adds a compostable double wall cup to the Bioware range with our unique Impresso outer wrap that feels good to hold and provides enhanced insulation.“The compostable Impresso has EN13432 certification, which means that it is compostable at approved composting facilities.”Manufactured in the UK, the new cups are available for customers across Europe.Eplett added: “The hot drinks market is extremely competitive and customers are looking for environmentally sound choices. For those with access to industrial composting, Huhtamaki’s ‘feel good’ Impresso cup is the ideal solution.“Our new ‘feel good’ Impresso cup offers the perfect solution for an operator to deliver an excellent drinking experience, as well as a product that is made from PEFC paperboard, with a plant-based lining that is certified compostable.”Huhtamaki has a network of 79 manufacturing units and 24 sales offices in 34 countries.
