Packaging

The bill (Article 3b) imposes on the trader operating a retail, wholesale or catering unit in which the single-use plastic products listed in Annex 6 to the Act, which are packaging or beverages or food packaged by that trader into those products, an obligation to collect a fee from the end-user purchasing those products or beverages or food in those products, hereinafter referred to as the ‘fee’. The above-mentioned entrepreneur is also obliged to ensure the availability of alternative packaging for single-use plastic products listed in Annex 6 to the Act which are packaging, made from materials other than plastics, including non-biodegradable plastics, or the availability of reusable packaging.
The fee must be also collected by the trader who packages and offers – by means of a vending machine, including in places other than retail, wholesale or catering units – beverages or food in single-use plastic products listed in Annex 6 to the Act which constitute packaging.
The measures adopted should reduce by 2026, compared to 2022, the measurable and quantitative use of single-use plastic products listed in Annex 6 to the Act as packaging, as well as an increase in the use of alternative packaging to the above-mentioned products.
